RACING REACHES OUT
FUNDRAISER TO HELP FAMILIES OF INJURED TRACKWORK RIDERS
Ben Saunders & Wade Clasohm

The “Racing Reaches Out” fundraiser will be held at Clifford Park on Saturday, May 13. It will raise money to assist the families of injured trackwork riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm.

Mr Saunders and Mr Clasohm are still in hospital in Brisbane as they begin the long road to recovery from their horrific injuries sustained in a tragic fall at Clifford Park early morning on Saturday, April 8.

Chairman Kent Woodford said the TTC was honoured to be hosting the fundraiser in the Wippells Autos Grande Marquee at Clifford Park.

“These boys have an enormous battle ahead of them, it’s only fitting that the racing community band together to help raise some money to aid their recovery and help ease the burden of expenses on their families.

“We encourage as many people as possible to find it in their hearts to make a donation or attend this fundraising event,” Mr Woodford said.

TTC Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers said the club had received many offers of assistance from both racing authorities (Racing Queensland, Queensland Racing Integrity Commission) and local businesses in putting the fundraiser dinner together.

“We’ve had some incredible donations of auction items, including a framed, signed shoe belonging champion horse Buffering and his trainer Robert Heathcote; a weekend away in Melbourne including airfares from Wellcamp Airport, accommodation at the Melbourne Parkview Hotel, Flemington Racecourse hospitality and a tour of the Living Legends facility; a signed Gold Coast Titans jersey from the Western Mustangs, a $500 betting voucher from UBETs and much more.

“The racing fraternity have certainly reached out and offered their assistance, which is wonderful. We want to see as many people attending this event, so we can raise as much as possible for Wade and Ben’s families as possible,” Mr Odgers said.

There will be several opportunities to get involved in the event – including the sponsoring of races on the night and donations of auction items and raffle prizes. All money from these donations and sponsorships will be added to the fundraising pool.

If businesses or individuals are interested in sponsoring a race or donating a prize, please contact Clifford Park Business Development Manager Lizzy King on 0478 752 039.

Tickets for the event will cost $75, including dinner and dessert. The TTC will cover ALL expenses associated with the dinner cost, allowing all of the ticket price to go to the fundraising pool.

Tickets are available for purchase by contacting Clifford Park administration on 4634 6066.
