King of the Mountain Raceday
Queensland’s most electrifying sprint.
One mountain. One king.
Returning to the Toowoomba Show Holiday, King of the Mountain Raceday is where raw speed, regional pride and racing tradition collide. Enjoy all-day entertainment, standout style at the Florence & Marabel Fashions on the Field, and amazing food through out the day.
At its core is the King of the Mountain, a high-stakes sprint that attracts elite thoroughbreds, fearless jockeys and a crowd that knows great racing when they see it. But this raceday is more than one race. It’s a full-throttle celebration of our local racing culture, and an elegant pre-season counterpart to the iconic Weetwood.
King of the Mountain is about passionate locals to travelling racing fans, this one of a kind Raceday brings everyone together for fast horses, big moments and an atmosphere that builds from the first race to the final roar. Pride of place racing, bold, competitive and unforgettable.
Where it all began...
The King of the Mountain was born from a bold idea, to create a signature sprint race that reflects the pride, toughness and competitive spirit of the Darling Downs.
Introduced in 2022, the race was designed as a high-energy showcase for elite speed horses, quickly earning attention for its short, sharp distance and winner-takes-all prestige.
Named for Toowoomba’s elevated landscape, King of the Mountain symbolises the challenge of conquering not just the field, but the mountain itself.
Won in its inaugural running by Yellow Brick, the race set the tone for what has become a modern country racing classic, a celebration of regional pride, twilight racing spectacle and Queensland’s top sprinting talent beyond the metro lights.
The beginning of a new racing tradition in Toowoomba, where future legends are crowned.
