RACING REACHES OUT A SUCCESS

MORE than $165,000 was raised for injured trackwork riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm at the Saturday night’s Racing Reaches Out fundraiser at Clifford Park.

The evening was extremely emotional, but an enormous success, according to Toowoomba Turf Club Chairman, Kent Woodford.

“The TTC is delighted to be able to help out Ben and Wade’s families with this enormous cash injection.

“It will really relieve some of the financial pressures on the families. It’s been an emotional journey for everyone at the TTC that put the fundraiser together,” Mr Woodford said.

Sporting memorabilia, stud and various racing club hospitality packages went under the hammer and were extremely popular at the event, which attracted over 350 attendees to Clifford Park’s Wippells Autos Grande Marquee.

Toowoomba Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers thanked all sponsors and businesses that donated.

“Without the support of racing industry and the community at large, this event would not have been such an enormous success.

“We had a terrific result with the online auction of the stallion services and the colt, which resulted in over $50,000 alone.

“Everyone at the TTC wishes Ben and Wade the very best with their recovery – they are both working very hard in rehab and we were thrilled to facilitate and host the Racing Reaches Out fundraiser,” Mr Odgers said.
