CLIFFORD PARK CAPTURES MELBOURNE CUP DAY SUCCESS
CLIFFORD Park rivalled Flemington for Melbourne Cup Day success yesterday. More than 1000 racing lovers flocked to the Toowoomba Turf Club to celebrate the “Race That Stops The Nation”.
Toowoomba Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Blair Odgers said the TTC was “delighted” with the attendance figures for yesterday’s mid-week racing event.
“Aside from being at Flemington for the biggest horse racing event of the year, Clifford Park was definitely the place to be.
“We have the biggest screen in town to watch the Melbourne Cup, but also featured five local races. There is nothing quite like the atmosphere at a race track on Melbourne Cup Day – you’re able to soak in the live racing atmosphere, put on a bet with a local bookmaker, cheer on local favourite horses or trainers in local races – you just can’t get that a café or restaurant.”
Mr Odgers said Clifford Park’s Melbourne Cup Day event was gaining popularity and momentum, which showed in the day’s figures.
“Our Corporate Trackside Marquee and Members Reserved Dining packages sold out several weeks before. Reserved dining was up more than 50%, while admission was up more than 16%.
“It’s exciting for the Clifford Park team to present another successful, first-class racing and entertainment event. We would like to continue to build our numbers for Melbourne Cup next year, while looking forward to a bigger and better Weetwood on Saturday, April 7, 2018,” Mr Odgers said.
The next major event for Clifford Park will be Bundaberg Rum New Year’s Eve Party, live racing and two live bands to ring in the New Year. The Australian INXS Show will be supported by local band Special Guest.
